The Jungle Farm’s 1,000 Hours Outside program for 6-12 year olds started this week, with award-winning teacher Amy Severtson at the helm!
“I love The Jungle Farm – it was my amazing experience while working here for the past eight years that prompted me to become a teacher. Now I’m happy to support and mentor the other university students who are studying to become teachers, too. We all come together to provide programs for children at The Jungle Farm, while we’re all on summer break!” said Amy, who teaches at Bowden Grandview School.
Amy received the Zone 4 Edwin Parr Award from the Alberta School Boards Association. The award is given to exceptional first-year teachers in Alberta, and she was nominated by Chinook’s Edge School Division. Read more about Amy Severtson at this link.
“We are so lucky to have Amy involved in these summer programs for our kids,” said Joy Milne, Wylie and Magni’s mom who is also a teacher in Chinook’s Edge. “Leona and her staff always have new and fun ideas, and my kids have been coming out to The Jungle Farm since they were toddlers. We used to do the Veggie Boxes and u-pick, but Leona inspired me to start my own garden. She helps me start my tomatoes and veggies, and we make an event of coming to custom plant our flowers for my birthday in April. The Jungle Farm nurtures everything until I bring it home, and then I have the best looking garden around!”
