Murray and Rachel Hollman started stocking their kitchen with The Jungle Farm’s vegetable box program nearly a decade ago, when their first child was a babe in arms. They still drive down from Red Deer every week throughout the growing season – now with all four of their kids in tow!
“We just really want our kids to see where their food comes from,” said Murray. “We got pretty tied to the farm right from the start, and we all love being there. The kids are happy playing in the fresh air, and we are happy to know the quality of the food we feed them. Plus, Leona and Blaine make you feel like part of the family. They have a lot of returning staff and they are a big part of the community. It is always a positive experience that we all look forward to each week.”
The Hollmans are active in virtually all the programs The Jungle Farm Officers. Beginning with the four-week Salad Box program, then moving through the summer with the 14 week Vegetable Boxes. They also take part in the five week B.C. Fruit Box, which provides fresh product they preserve themselves, along with the special Thanksgiving Vegetable Box.
As well, their kids have been in the ABC program for years, which is a popular summer program geared to children aged 2-6 years. Rachel is a teacher and Murray is a Trustee on the Red Deer Catholic Regional School Board, so this busy family sees the value in having a fresh supply of locally grown produce ready for pick up. Spending time outside as a family at The Jungle Farm is an added bonus.
“They have such a great connection with kids there. It’s like visiting old friends,” said Murray.
